One month before the end of World War II, General Eisenhower issued special orders concerning the treatment of German Prisoners and specific in the language of those orders was this statement:

Prison enclosures are to provide NO shelter or other comforts.”

Eisenhower’s biographer Stephen Ambrose, who was given access to the Eisenhower personal letters, states that he proposed to exterminate the entire German General Staff thousands of people… AFTER the war.

Eisenhower, in his personal letters, did not merely hate the Nazi Regime, and the few who imposed its will down from the top, but that HE HATED THE GERMAN PEOPLE AS A RACE. It was his personal intent to destroy as many of them as he could, and one way was to wipe out as many prisoners of war as possible.

The accusation of racism is a serious one in our society. But that is just the charge UN special envoy Stephen Lewis effectively has made against all of us.

Responding to the question “Why does the West ignore Africa?” while speaking at the Canadian Club in Toronto recently, Lewis approvingly quoted Senator Romeo Dallaire’s claim that “there is an unacknowledged, subterranean racism at work”.

Assimilation — in his view — would be yet another despicable instance of cultural imperialism—but, of course, it would also throw doubt upon his own world outlook, which he has adopted precisely to establish his own superior [racist?] broad-mindedness and tolerance.

 After all, my Indian medical students who know Shakespeare, and speak what used to be called the King’s English, might suggest to him that the very people whose culture he claims to defend often see great value in the culture (to say nothing of the institutions) he is defending them from, and that therefore his presuppositions are profoundly mistaken.

Keeping foreigners in cultural ghettos is thus a necessity for him, if he is to preserve his self-regard.
